DIN EN 1.4462 Duplex Stainless Steel X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 Material Datasheet, Properties, Equivalent

DIN EN 1.4462 Duplex Stainless Steel (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 Material)

DIN EN 1.4462 stainless steel (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 Material) is an Austenitic-Ferritic duplex steel, which combines the excellent properties of austenite and ferrite, and has good resistance to pitting, surface and intergranular corrosion, and higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking. 1.4462 material also has good weldability and mechanical properties, its strength is about twice that of austenite such as AISI 304 grade stainless steel. Due to these excellent properties, this material can be used in many areas of the marine industry.

1.4462 Material Heat Treatment

The following is material 1.4462 stainless steel heat treatment, such as hot forming, solution annealing.

For solution annealing of 1.4462 stainless steel, if the heat treatment is performed in a continuous furnace, it’s usually preferable to specify an upper limit of the temperature range or even exceed it, and cooling should be sufficiently rapidly to avoid precipitation.

Welding

DIN EN 1.4462 duplex can be welded by all common welding processes (except gas welding), such as WIG, MAG, ARC, and laser welding. It’s recommended to use a slightly higher energy (1-3 kJ/mm) for welding. Filler metal is optional.

Corrosion Resistance

Due to its duplex structure, DIN EN 1.4462 duplex stainless steel shows excellent corrosion resistance in acidic environments (especially in phosphoric and organic acids) and chloride-containing media, and is not sensitive to intergranular and stress corrosion cracking, even resistant to intergranular corrosion after welding.

Machinability

Due to the duplex structure and high basic strength characteristics, 1.4462 stainless steel is difficult to machine.

Use & Application

DIN EN 1.4462 duplex stainless steel can be used for pressure vessels, high-pressure storage tanks, high-pressure pipelines, heat exchangers (chemical processing industry), desalination and sewage treatment systems. Oil and gas pipelines, heat exchanger fittings, pulp and paper industry classifiers, bleaching equipment, storage and processing systems. Rotary shafts, press rolls, blades, impellers, etc. in a high-strength, corrosion-resistant environment. Food processing equipment.
